Winter in Chicago can seem dreary, but there’s still romance in the air. When the temperature drops and the sun sets before you leave work for the day, there’s nothing better than warming up with your love.
From a subterranean speakeasy to a sky-high lounge with a view, Chicago is built for date night. We’ve found some of the most romantic bars Downtown.
Gilt Bar is basically the definition of a romantic bar. There’s dim lighting, dark leather banquettes, and a menu is built for romance, featuring shareable plates like tenderloin steak tartare, truffle pasta, and grilled farm chicken. You and your love can sip on martinis, negronis, and old-fashioneds beneath the single chandelier. Head downstairs to The Library for a truly romantic setting amidst shelves filled with leather-bound books.
Maude’s Liquor Bar
With a name like Maude’s Liquor Bar, you might not think of a romantic rendezvous. However, this intimate restaurant ranks high on the date-night lists. It’s a swanky spot offering a sophisticated speakeasy experience. The subterranean lounge has an expansive wine list and classic French dishes. The ambiance is warm and inviting, with exposed brick and flickering candlelight.
Your romance will be sky-high when you sip cocktails at the Signature Lounge. Located two floors above the 360 Chicago observatory in the Hancock Building, you’ll have some of the best views in the city, when you’re not gazing into each other’s eyes over your martinis, that is.
If you really want to turn up the heat, visit Allium in the Four Seasons hotel. Sitting on the couch in front of the roaring fire is about as romantic as you can get, especially when you’re in one of the ritziest hotels in the city. Make it a Chicago-style version of Lady and the Tramp and share one of their famous house-made hot dogs.
